I read Anne Lamont’s “Bird by Bird” while writing my dissertation. Although the book primarily dealt with fiction writing, I found much of her advice about writing applicable to writing in general. I was excited to see her interview with Anna Sale in my podcast feed. I finally listened to it. Anne is as funny as ever.

I’ve always appreciated her honesty about the state of our existence. Here’s a tiny excerpt from the interview:

“The more time you spend in the presence of death the less you fear it. Your life will be greatly enhanced by spending time with dying people even though you’ve been taught to avoid it. Death is not the enemy; snakes are.”
